There’s no shortage of atmospheric, spooky things to do in Krakow, but nothing comes close to the terror you’ll experience in Lost Souls Alley.

Tucked down an unassuming alleyway just off the Main Market Square, Lost Souls Alley Krakow is both a scare attraction and horror escape room, and having experienced it twice myself, I can tell you that Lost Souls Alley is on a different level to other scare attractions I’ve been to.

Lost Souls Alley, Krakow – An Honest Review

In this post, I’m going to share my full Lost Souls Alley review with you. I’ll explain just what Lost Souls Alley is, how the different intensity levels work, what actually happens once you’re inside, and my honest take on whether it’s worth doing.

I’ll also share practical info such as whether Lost Souls Alley is accessible, how to get there, how to make a booking, and the rules you need to follow when you’re inside.

Are you ready? Then let’s get into it.

What is Lost Souls Alley?

Lost Souls Alley opened in 2013, marketed as Poland’s first interactive haunted attraction combining horror theatre with escape room-style puzzles.

Lost Souls Alley is a highly immersive, dark walkthrough experience inspired by horror movies. You’ll pass through multiple rooms, most of which require you to solve a puzzle, find a key, or locate a hidden exit in order to get to the next room.

Along the way you’ll meet actors who, depending on the intensity level you’ve selected, will follow you, attempt to separate you from the group, and even physically touch you.

It’s based at Floriańska 6, just off one of Krakow’s busiest tourist streets, and is right in the heart of the old town.

I’ve personally been to Lost Souls Alley twice (I’m a glutton for punishment), and both times I finished the experience sweating, shaking, and vowing never to return.

My first visit was back in 2017, when there was just a single version of the experience on offer. By the time I went back in 2023, that had expanded into four separate levels, each with a different degree of intensity, and the production value was even more impressive than it had been before.

Choosing Your Level

One of the things that makes Lost Souls Alley stand out from other haunted house attractions is that before you start, you choose which version of the experience you want. There are four to choose from, each with escalating levels of contact and intensity.

  • GREEN: The least intense of all shows. In the Green version, there is no physical contact from the actors. The website states that this version is designed for ‘sensitive people.’ Available to people aged 13 and above.
  • YELLOW: Moderate to significant contact. This is the version I chose, and it struck a brilliant balance between absolutely terrifying and still a lot of fun. There will be physical touch from the actors, but they will ‘try’ not to cause harm. There is a possibility that you will get captured and separated from the group. Available to people aged 14 and above.
  • RED: The most extreme version, involving considerably rougher handling and the possibility of real pain – think tasers, being grabbed, and dragged around by actors. This version is for people who have a lot of experience with this type of attraction and want to make their session more real by adding ‘pain, very  close physical contact with the staff and physical abuse.’ The website states that it is ‘certain’ that you will acquire sores and bruises in this version, and warns that your clothing may get wet. Only about 20% of visitors choose the RED version, and 60% of them leave the show midway through. Available to people aged 18 and above.

Everybody in your group must choose the same level, so make sure you’re all on the same page before you go.

It is also worth noting that for those who choose the YELLOW and RED versions of the show, complaints about the actors are not taken into account. Those who select the RED version must also sign a waiver before taking part.

The actors can touch you on the level that we chose

As you can see, Lost Souls Alley is not a gentle experience, and health and safety of participants is really not top priority for them – if you decide to commit to one of the higher intensity levels, that’s on you.

With that being said, I was never hurt or bruised during my two visits to Lost Souls Alley. I did fall over a couple of times, and once I lost a shoe when I was being chased by an actor wielding a chainsaw, but the staff certainly weren’t too rough with us (although I did end up with a rope around my neck at one point…).

What to Expect Inside

The experience starts with a séance, and from there you’re sent through a series of dark, elaborately themed rooms, working together to solve puzzles that unlock your way forward, escape-room-style.

The attention to detail throughout is some of the best I’ve seen anywhere (and I’ve been to quite a few of these attractions!). Every room is decorated with a level of realism that goes well beyond typical haunted house set dressing – the Saw-themed bathroom was particularly gruesome.

At various points you’ll need to crawl through narrow passageways to reach secret rooms, and there are stretches of total darkness and thick mist that add to the disorientation of it all.

Whatever your particular fear is, there’s a good chance you’ll run into a version of it here – clowns, little girls, farmers wielding chainsaws, grotesque nuns, and the one and only Samara from The Ring (she was there on both of my visits!).

The actors are excellent and fully committed to their characters the entire way through, to the point where you begin to question whether they may actually be sadists.

On my most recent visit, my boyfriend Ethan got separated from our group completely and locked inside a coffin, leaving me without anyone to cling onto!

Lost Souls Alley Krakow – Is it For You?

I’ll be honest: this is a genuinely scary experience for people who are familiar with scare attractions and are looking for something that will actually test them.

On the YELLOW level (the one I have experience with), you should expect real physical contact throughout, actors grabbing you, lightly choking you, pulling you along, and even tickling you.

As I haven’t experienced the GREEN version, I can’t speak to how scary that one is, but you’re still committing to darkness, mist, tight crawl spaces, and actors getting in your personal space.

Based on my experience at the venue and with the actors, I’d say that this version is definitely still pretty scary, and probably on a par with scare attractions in the UK.

A Word of Caution

Lost Souls Alley is not accessible in any way.

Between the crawling, narrow passageways, and the sheer physicality of the experience, it simply isn’t suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

It’s not recommended for pregnant women, or anyone with conditions like epilepsy, asthma, claustrophobia, hypertension, or heart problems either.

The experience is also not suitable for people with pacemakers, metal implants in the body, or hearing aids.

Lost Souls Alley Krakow | Final Thoughts

Having been twice now, I can honestly say that Lost Souls Alley is by far the best and most terrifying scare attraction I’ve been to.

I’m certainly no connoisseur, but I’ve definitely been to my fair share of immersive haunted houses, and this one stands out. The production values, the intensity system, and commitment from the actors are all top notch, and the fact that it blends an escape room element into the horror makes it infinitely more immersive (and definitely raises the panic levels!).

This isn’t for the faint-hearted, but if you’re looking for something that will genuinely scare you on your trip to Krakow, I’d say that Lost Souls Alley is a must.

That’s all for this one, but as always, if you have any questions then let me know in the comments below, and if you’re ready to book your scare experience, you can visit their website.

Until next time,

XOXO
