There’s no shortage of spooky and strange things to do in Blackpool.
From delving into Blackpool’s dark history in The Blackpool Tower Dungeon, to riding the world’s oldest ghost train, or taking your chances in Pasaje del Terror, Blackpool’s infamous horror house, there’s certainly plenty of quirky attractions to choose from.
However, did you know that Blackpool also has its very own horror bar?
Scream and Shake Horror Bar Blackpool is a café-bar rammed with horror movie memorabilia, life-size waxworks, and, rather unsettlingly, a few genuine pieces of true crime history.

Scream & Shake Horror Bar – Is it Worth Visiting?
I’ve visited Scream & Shake Blackpool a few times, and in this article I’m going to share my honest opinion about Scream & Shake, including what awaits you inside, my best cocktail recommendations, and whether I think it’s worth visiting.
Are you ready? Then let’s get into it.
The Story Behind Scream and Shake
Scream and Shake is the brainchild of Kurt Walsh, a former scare attraction owner and actor who previously ran The Horror Crypt, a scare attraction on Blackpool’s Promenade, before opening Scream and Shake as his next venture.
The mission behind the bar is to ‘keep Blackpool weird,’ packing the space with decades of horror film ephemera and gruesome props, and as a result it’s grown a real cult following, becoming something of a pilgrimage spot for horror fans visiting Blackpool.

Inside Scream and Shake
As soon as you enter, you’ll be under no illusion that this bar is the result of a real horror obsession.
The walls are covered in horror movie posters spanning decades, old horror and gore magazines, and life-size models of genre icons such as Pennywise, Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Frankenstein’s monster, and Ash from Evil Dead.

There’s even some murderabilia items here, such as a framed strand of hair reportedly belonging to Charles Manson! The first time I visited, they even had a few serial killer t-shirts for sale, although these seem to have been replaced by less controversial horror movie and band t-shirts.
You can also buy other horror-themed bits such as costume jewellery (they have lots of cute handmade horror earrings) and makeup, although there were considerably less items for sale when I visited in 2026 than my previous visit in 2023 – I’m not sure if they’re in the middle of changing something, or if merchandise just isn’t as much of a focus anymore.

Food and Drink
I’m going to be real with you – you don’t come to Scream and Shake for food. They do have Pot Noodles and toasties (cheese, ham, or cheese and ham) available to buy, but there are so many affordable cafes on this street that you’re better off eating elsewhere, if I’m being completely honest.
It’s not that the food here is bad. It just doesn’t seem to be something they focus on. When I asked about the toasties, the bartender said that he’d need to run to the shop to buy all of the ingredients – that’s how infrequently people eat here!
However, where Scream and Shake properly delivers is on drinks.
The happy hour is every day from 12:00pm – 8:00pm and is great value, with any two cocktails for a tenner, two boozy milkshakes for £9, and pints of draught lager and cider for under a fiver.

The boozy milkshakes are a real highlight – Ethan and I both ordered a Buenos de los Muertos shake, which is a Kinder Bueno shake with Baileys and Kahlua (served in a skull glass, of course), and they were SO GOOD.
The themed cocktails are also fun – my favourite was the Scream Queen which is basically a Porn Star Martini with a syrupy pentagram on top.

Events and Entertainment
Scream and Shake isn’t just a café-bar – it’s a real cultural hub and community spot, and regularly hosts rock gigs, jam sessions, and alternative DJ sets, alongside horror movie nights, where you can settle in with a themed drink and watch a classic (or cult) horror film in appropriate surroundings.
There’s also a pool table, pinball machine, and Aliens arcade machine if you fancy a game between drinks.

Scream and Shake Blackpool | Final Thoughts
Scream & Shake is the kind of spooky and unique independent bar that I love.
You can tell that it’s owned by, and staffed by, genuine horror fans, and there’s a real sense of community here. Between the creepy waxworks, cult movie posters, regular event nights and boozy milkshakes, you couldn’t really ask for much more here.
I do think it’s a shame that they don’t seem to sell much merchandise anymore – I’d been secretly hoping to get an Ed Kemper t-shirt on my last visit – but that’s really a non-issue.
Overall, if you love horror films and are drawn to anything a bit macabre, I’d say that Scream and Shake is well worth a spot on your Blackpool itinerary.
That’s all for this one, but as always, if you have any questions then let me know in the comments below.
Until next time,
XOXO
