Singapore, a vibrant city-state celebrated for its modernity and diverse cultural heritage, becomes even more enchanting during the sunny summer months.

Whether you’re captivated by nature, drawn to wildlife, or fascinated by marine ecosystems, Singapore caters to every interest with a wealth of interesting things to see and do.

From the lush greenery of the world-famous Singapore Zoo to the mesmerising marine life at the SEA Aquarium, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

I visited Singapore a few years ago, when my phone camera wasn’t as good as it is now!

I visited Singapore in summer during my 18-month trip to Southeast Asia, and it was completely different to the other countries in the region.

Slick and modern, Singapore is home to the unique Gardens by the Bay, an exciting Night Safari, and there are even sandy beaches to be found on Sentosa Island.

Discover the melting pot of culture in Chinatown and Little India, or indulge in outdoor escapades at East Coast Park.

Whatever your tastes, Singapore in the summer is a great place to be, and in this post, I’m going to share my best recommendations for things to see and do during summer in Singapore.

8 Best Things to Do in Singapore in the Summer

1. Visit the Singapore Zoo

The Singapore Zoo is a fascinating place for wildlife enthusiasts.

Its renowned open-concept enclosures authentically replicate natural habitats, allowing visitors to observe orangutans, zebras, and giraffes up close.

When I visited, I saw two stunning white tigers, and to this day, I can’t get over how majestic they were!

Another experience not to miss in Singapore Zoo is the orangutan breakfast experience, blending fun and education.

The Singapore Zoo also offers valuable insights into conservation efforts and animal behaviour, and whether you’re marvelling at the diversity of species or enjoying interactive feeding sessions, the Singapore Zoo promises a memorable and educational experience for all ages.

I will say that I personally found the enclosures to be smaller than expected. For a zoo, Singapore Zoo is certainly above average in this regard, but after visiting Safari Parks in the UK and seeing animals roaming relatively freely, I do think that the animals could be given a little more freedom.

2. Explore the SEA Aquarium Singapore

If the summer heat is too much for you, head to the SEA Aquarium for some respite.

Located on Sentosa Island, the renowned SEA Aquarium is home to over 100,000 marine animals from across the globe, making it a fascinating place to visit.

From manta rays to sharks and vibrant coral reefs, the underwater tunnels allow you to see it all, and the SEA Aquarium actually boasts one of the world’s largest viewing panels, offering a totally immersive experience.

3. Enjoy a River Safari

One of the best things to do in Singapore in the summer is to embark on a river-themed wildlife adventure at the River Safari, located just next to the Singapore Zoo.

Cruise down the river and encounter a fascinating array of animals, including the iconic giant panda, gentle manatees, and playful capybaras.

As you journey through different river habitats, you’ll gain insights into various endangered species and conservation efforts, making the experience fun yet meaningful at the same time.

As you learn more about global biodiversity, you’ll realise the importance of protecting natural habitats, so this one is a great one if you’re visiting Singapore with kids.

4. Relax at Sentosa Island

Before I visited Singapore, I had no idea that this urban city-state is actually home to some gorgeous beaches!

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, head to Sentosa Island, where you can lounge on sandy beaches, take a dip in crystal-clear waters, or indulge in thrilling water sports like jet skiing and parasailing.

Sentosa also offers world-class attractions including the Universal Studios Singapore theme park, and the Adventure Cove Waterpark, making it a great day out for the whole family.

5. Gardens by the Bay

Perhaps the most iconic Singapore landmark is the the futuristic Gardens by the Bay, which is a stunning example of Singapore’s commitment to green spaces and sustainable architecture.

The Gardens by the Bay are a must-see at any time of year, but summer is when you can truly appreciate their splendour.

Highlights include:

Supertree Grove – towering tree-like structures that come alive with a dazzling light and sound show at night.

The Flower Dome – a serene oasis featuring a myriad of plant species from different continents.

The Cloud Forest – a mist-filled mountain that showcases rare vegetation and cascading waterfalls, all within a cool climate-controlled environment.

Gardens by the Bay is a unique blend of nature, artistry, and conservation, and it’s definitely one of the must-see attractions in Singapore.

6. Night Safari Adventure

The Singapore Night Safari is the world’s first ever nocturnal zoo!

Visitors can choose between boarding an open tram or exploring on foot, and as you make your way around, you’ll encounter dozens of fascinating nocturnal animals in their naturalistic habitats.

Getting to see the wildlife under the cover of darkness is an unforgettable experience, and animals that you might spot include leopards, hyenas, and tapirs!

You’ll also be able to listen to an educational commentary that will enhance your understanding of these nocturnal species, adding even more depth to this immersive wildlife expedition.

7. Cultural discovery in Chinatown and Little India

Many people assume that Singapore will be quite sterile and lacking in culture, but they couldn’t be more wrong!

Singapore has a rich, multicultural heritage, and the neighbourhoods of Chinatown and Little India are the best places to experience this first-hand!

Wander along streets lined with ornate temples, vibrant markets teeming with spices and textiles, and traditional shophouses adorned with intricate motifs.

Sample authentic local cuisine at bustling street food stands, savouring flavours that reflect centuries of culinary tradition.

Here you’ll see ancient customs and traditions blending seamlessly with modern life, and in my opinion, they’re the most exciting places in the city!

8. Outdoor escapades at East Coast Park

East Coast Park, Singapore’s expansive seaside parkland, is perfect for outdoorsy types.

One of the most simple (yet rewarding) things to do here is to rent a bicycle and pedal along the picturesque coastline, taking in the sea breeze and stunning views.

You could also go rollerblading, join a game of beach volleyball, or bring some meat and make use of the barbecue pits that are free for public use.

Whether you seek adventure or relaxation, East Coast Park provides a refreshing escape from city life, and it’s a wonderful place to be if you’re in Singapore in the summer months.

Singapore in the Summer | Final Thoughts

I hope I’ve managed to show that Singapore is not all about skyscrapers and infinity pools (although it has plenty of both, if that’s what you’re looking for).

Summer in Singapore is a lot of fun, and whether you’re fascinated by wildlife, intrigued by marine ecosystems, or just looking to relax on the beach, you won’t be disappointed in Singapore.
