Best Albufeira Old Town Restaurants

Albufeira is the biggest and most popular beach resort in Portugal, so it should come as no surprise that there are hundreds of Albufeira restaurants and bars clamouring for your attention.

Sometimes it can feel as though every other building in Albufeira is a restaurant, and in a town where there are so many low-quality tourist eateries, it’s difficult to know which Albufeira restaurants are good, and which you should avoid.

I’ve just spent a week in Albufeira where I ate out for almost every meal, and I will say that I was quite impressed.

With that being said, I did a lot of research before I arrived, as well as asking locals and people who have spent a lot of time in the area where to eat in Albufeira Old Town.

I’ve put together this list of my personal recommendations of Albufeira Old Town restaurants, based on my own experiences and the dishes I ate there.

There are no doubt some wonderful Albufeira restaurants that haven’t made this list, simply because I didn’t get a chance to eat there, and I want this article to be as authentic as possible.

So, with that being said, let’s get into it – here are the Albufeira Old Town restaurants that I recommend.

Bistro

I went to Bistro with a group of friends when I wasn’t particularly hungry, and I was so devastated that I could only manage a starter as everything looked so delicious!

Bistro has a cosy and intimate interior, with soft lighting and simple furnishings.

I opted for a tomato and mozzarella salad with green pesto and it was yummy, but I had major food envy at the salmon linguine with spinach and mushroom that my friend ordered!

The menu is divided pretty equally between meat, fish, and pasta dishes, but vegetarian options are limited, with only one veggie pasta dish and a couple of salad starters catering to vegetarians.

Casa da Fonte

Casa da Fonte is a beautiful restaurant set around a Moorish-style courtyard, complete with azulejos (traditional blue tiles) and lemon trees.

This is by far one of the prettiest places to eat in Albufeira old town, and the menu is packed with grilled meat and seafood dishes.

Albufeira has wonderful fresh seafood, so I’d always recommend ordering fish if you can – from sword fish to sea bream, and sea bass to sardines, Casa da Fonte has it all. I particularly recommend the shell fish cream soup as a starter, which I enjoyed so much that I forgot to take a picture!

Good to know: There are no veggie options on the menu here (unless you fancy having garlic bread as your main meal), but when we asked the staff, they told us that they have vegetarian lasagna available, so always check!

Trattoria Toscana

Trattoria Toscana is an Italian restaurant and pizzeria right on the beachfront, where you can enjoy your dinner on the terrace overlooking the water.

I ordered a pizza and was pretty impressed, although the pasta dishes looked incredible.

Vegetarians are particularly looked after here, with truffle and mushroom ravioli, eggplant and burrata pasta, and ricotta and spinach cannollini being just some of the meat-free offerings on the menu.

Food here is also reasonably priced, especially considering the stunning location.

If you need an Italian food fix in Albufeira, you can’t go wrong here.

Adega do David

Adega do David is a real hidden gem when it comes to Albufeira Old Town restaurants.

Although technically it’s just outside the old town, you can be there in just a few minutes on foot.

As well as a very reasonably-priced main menu, they also have a daily special – when I came here for lunch, the special was a Portuguese pork and bean stew for just 6.50 EUR, and you can see how big the portion was in the picture below!

Also on the menu are mixed meat grills, grilled fish, stuffed squid, and Alheira de Mirandela, a traditional Portuguese smoked sausage.

The menu changes often, but when I was there, the only vegetarian options were side salads and veggie bean burgers.

Taberna Vicentina

Taberna Vicentina is another hidden gem if you’re looking for where to eat in Albufeira but don’t want anything super touristy.

When I came here, my group and I were the only non-locals, which is almost always a good sign!

Enjoy regional favourites like octopus salad, chicken gizzards, and cod with chickpeas, or do what I did and plump for some juicy garlic prawns with a fat wedge of lemon!

It’s also worth mentioning that coffee and beer is incredibly cheap here, so be sure to come here for your caffeine fix/hair of the dog!

MnM Kitchen

MnM Kitchen is an ‘Asian fusion’ restaurant a short walk away from the old town where you’ll find everything from Indian and Nepalese food to Thai and Chinese dishes.

Although I was slightly disappointed with my meal here (grilled pork belly), I’m including it on the list because everyone else I was with really enjoyed their food, and so it was definitely a case of ordering the wrong thing (it’s not as though my food was bad, it just wasn’t as tasty as I was expecting)!

The butter chicken in particular was a favourite, as was the lentil dahl and garlic naan with cheese.

EDDY’s Bar

If you want a cheap n’ cheerful bite to eat, EDDY’s Bar serves up generous portions of typical pub grub.

EDDY’s Bar is an English sports pub (if you go there when a match is on, be prepared for lots of rowdy Brits abroad), and it serves everything you’d find in a pub in Blighty.

Steak and kidney pie, fish and chips, gammon steak and full English Breakfasts are what you can expect here, and they also have a dedicated pizza station.

To be perfectly honest, it’s not really my kind of place, but I really enjoyed my chicken wrap with fries and it was less than 10 EUR with a large Coke Zero as well – you can’t complain at that!

Infinity Steakhouse & Sushi

When it comes to Albufeira Old Town restaurants, you can’t really get more central than Infinity Steakhouse & Sushi.

At first glance, it looks like a tourist trap, but this unlikely combination of steakhouse meets sushi bar actually really works, and I was really impressed with the sushi here.

Not only was the food presented beautifully, but it was high quality and really tasty, and I wasn’t expecting to find such good sushi in a tourist town like Albufeira!

I can’t vouch for the quality of the steak as I stuck with fish on this occasion, but if you’re looking for sushi in Albufeira, Infinity is a good spot. They also have plenty of vegetarian options, including vegan sushi.

Good to know: Many of the negative reviews mention food taking a long time to arrive and being cold when it finally does – these reviews seem to be coming from people who dined here when major sports events were being broadcast (Infinity shows all sports on large projectors), and so I recommend visiting Infinity at a quieter time to ensure good food and good service.

Peccati di Gola

If you’re looking for vegetarian or vegan food in Albufeira, Peccati di Gola is one of your best bets.

Many Portuguese establishments do not cater to vegetarians (unless you want garlic bread with a side of fries, that is), so it can be pretty difficult to find a balanced meal.

Peccati di Gola is an exception to the rule.

On their menu, they have an entire vegetarian section which includes pesto linguine with almond and pine nuts, tagliatelle with cream and mushrooms, and penne all’arrabbiata (one of my favourite Roman pasta dishes).

There are also plenty of meaty pastas for the carnivores among you, plus pizzas, and, randomly, poke bowls (!).

I ordered a salmon poke bowl (13.90 EUR) with sushi rice, wakame seaweed, black sesame, edamame, avocado, and red cabbage (I asked the waitress to switch out the mango in favour of extra edamame and she happily obliged).

My friend Han opted for the gnocchi with Gorgonzola and walnuts (also 13.90 EUR) and she was equally impressed.

Best Albufeira Old Town Restaurants | Final Thoughts

There are literally hundreds of restaurants in Albufeira Old Town, many of which have bad reviews and inflated prices.

Albufeira isn’t the kind of place where you can just wander round and choose a place to eat on a whim – doing a little bit of research definitely pays off here, and so I hope that my article has given you some ideas of where to go!
