Ellyz Café Athens – The Girliest Brunch Café in Athens
When it comes to Instagrammable cafés, Athens takes the cake (literally).
It might be more famous for its ancient ruins, but if you ask me, the coffee shops and brunch cafés in Athens are just as much of a reason to visit as the Acropolis.
One of the prettiest cafés in Athens is undoubtedly Ellyz Café, in the heart of Monastiraki.
With flowers mushrooming from the walls and ceiling, a wide range of delectable sweet treats, and Athens’ first pink cappuccino, Ellyz Café is definitely somewhere that attracts a lot of attention on social media.

But is it worth it, or is it a tourist trap?
In this blog post, I’m going to provide an honest review of Ellyz Café, based on my experience.
I’m going to discuss the food, Ellyz’ menu, and (perhaps most importantly), the prices.
So, if you’re in two minds about visiting Ellyz Café in Athens, just keep reading.

Ellyz Café Athens – The Girliest Brunch Café in Athens
Ellyz Café at a Glance
Ellyz Café was founded in 2019, and was one of the first ‘Instagrammable’ cafés in Athens (although Fairytale Athens and Little Kook did pip it to the post, opening in 2014 and 2015, respectively).
Ellyz is a floral wonderland where everything is pink, from the Hollandaise sauce to the coffee (yes, really).

In fact, Ellyz Café was the first place in Athens to serve pink coffee, which has now become a bit of a trend in the city.
They’re famous for their brunch dishes and sweet treats, but they also have a range of burgers and salads, as well as cocktails and other alcoholic drinks if you don’t fancy a pink coffee.
So, how was my experience at this viral Athens brunch café?
My Experience at Ellyz Café, Athens
Because I visited Athens in December, I was able to get seated right away, despite arriving in the late morning (ie peak brunch time).
Like most coffee shops in Athens, Ellyz does not accept reservations, and so you could be waiting a while if you’re travelling at a busier time of year (I recommend turning up as soon as it opens for the best chance of getting in quick).
As I stepped inside, passing through the gigantic floral arch in the doorway (shaped like a heart!), I was struck by just how floral this place was.
Roses, blossoms, peonies and bougainvillea (or plastic versions of them, at least) are everywhere. The only wall space that isn’t covered in flowers is home to neon pink wall signs with quotes like ‘Enjoy today,‘ and ‘Happiness is coffee & flowers.‘

It’s very pink, very pretty, and very Instagrammable.
I was seated by the window, with a nice view of both the outside and interior of the café.
The tables are white and gold marble (as is the floor), and the seats are teal and dusky pink, with comfortable plush velvet cushioning.
There’s also a small shop where you can buy Ellyz souvenirs, but honestly, I don’t recommend ever paying 48 EUR for a mug, so I’d probably give it a miss if I were you.

Ellyz Café Menu
The food
Ellyz Café menu is comprised mainly of sandwiches, egg dishes, healthy bowls, pancakes, and cakes.
There are also two pasta dishes (pink pesto pasta and a Greek pasta salad, both 9.50 EUR), two burgers (chicken for 9.50 or quinoa for 8.50 EUR), and a couple of salads.
Pancakes include chocolate pancakes with almond crumble and KitKat chocolate (9.50 EUR), as well as Dubai chocolate pancakes (14 EUR).
Ellyz cakes are all pink, and genuinely look like works of art. They are most known for their homemade cinnamon rolls (4.50 EUR), macarons (2 EUR each), and their limited edition ‘Ellyz cube,’ (9.50 EUR) which is made from hazelnut mousse, hazelnut dacquoise, and vanilla caramel.
Unfortunately, I didn’t try any of the cakes, but I have heard from multiple people that they are delicious.
As Ellyz Café is famous for its brunch dishes (it claims to have the best brunch in Athens!), I decided to order from the brunch section of the menu.
I went for the mushroom toast (8 EUR), which came on sourdough bread with grilled mushrooms, parmesan cream, hazelnut, arugula salad, and truffle mayo. I also ordered a side of avocado, which came drizzled in great quality EVOO and sprinkled with salt and pepper – divine!).

I really, really enjoyed this dish.
The flavours complimented each other perfectly, the portion was generous (especially for the price), and I didn’t even have to wait too long.

To drink, I ordered the signature pink cappuccino (4.70 EUR) from their extensive coffee menu (a regular cappuccino costs 4 EUR).
Honestly, it didn’t taste any different than a regular cappuccino, but that’s kinda the point. You order a pink coffee for the aesthetic, not for the taste.
With that being said, Ellyz Café prides itself on its excellent quality coffee, offering a great variety of Brazilian single grade coffee with a grade of over 95 (that means it’s really good, to you and me).
When I learned this, I was pleasantly surprised; not because the coffee didn’t taste great, but because I’d assumed that a place like Ellyz would be more focused on the vibes than the quality of their products.

Is Ellyz Café Expensive?
I’ve shared some of the prices at Ellyz Café with you already in this article, but I’ll share a few more now.
Here’s a breakdown of how much you can expect to pay at Ellyz Café.
- Sandwiches range from 5 EUR (ham and cheese toastie) to 9.50 EUR.
- Egg dishes range from 9 EUR (bacon omelette) to 12 EUR (Eggs Benedict with salmon and pink Hollandaise)
- Salads, pancakes, burgers and healthy bowls are all around 9 EUR
- Cakes cost between 2 EUR (a single macaron) to 12 EUR, with most priced at about 9 EUR.
- Coffee ranges from 3-5 EUR, or 7.50 for a freddo latte with a pink doughnut.
- Cocktails are 8-14 EUR.
As you can see, Ellyz Café isn’t cheap, but it’s not as expensive as other aesthetic cafés in Athens.
It’s certainly cheaper than Little Kook, and around the same price as Fairytale.
Personally, I find the cakes to be expensive (perhaps because cakes in the UK, where I’m from, are usually quite a bit cheaper), and the coffee is pricey for Athens, but that’s because you’re paying for both the gimmick of pink coffee, as well as the experience of dining somewhere like Ellyz.
As far as the food goes, I think everything is great value. Most brunch dishes on the menu are under 10 euros, and while you can certainly find cheaper food in Athens, again, you’re paying for a premium experience at Ellyz.
If I lived in Athens, I probably wouldn’t have the money to eat here every day, but as a tourist wanting a special travel experience, I think that Ellyz Café is definitely worth the money.

Is Ellyz vegan-friendly?
Yes.
Vegan dishes at Ellyz Café include:
- Mushroom toast with cashew cream
- Veggie sando with guacamole, sun-dried tomatoes, and baby arugula
- Buddha bowl with avocado, quinoa, chickpeas, zucchini, and other veggies
- Smoothie bowl with red berries, almond milk, coconut, and peanut butter
